According to the steel VIN tag on the door of the truck the Engine number is: G34068
Now on the registartion card from the licence office, it lists the engine code as: C54088.
I have assumed it is a replacement engine since the 292's were't available until 1963.
If anyone can let me know where I can determine the year of this engine, let me know.

The first year they were painted light green, after that they were Chevy Engine Orange. I have a '63 292 core motor, Casting #: 3789404; made on Con 2 on K 12 2. [Nov 12, 1962]; on the distributor pad it is stamped:F III 6PG.
L6 261s were also painted that apple green, to differ from the 235s, which looked alike from the outside, GMCs used the GMC 270 and 302 L6s, until they started using the Chevy 292 L6. Not sure what year.
Every 25 years I like to rebuild that 292 just for GP
