Hey i have just got a 1946 chevy 1/2 ton . The door hinges are badly rusted . What is the best way to get the pin in the hinges out ??

Its been years since I had a 46 but if I remember correctly I ended up grinding off the top of the hinge pin, soaking it with some Kroil and then using a punch was able to drive it out. You can usually drive them out from the bottom if you soak them real good...meaning a couple days but some are a pain.
Say..what part of S.C. are you from??

Welcome to the bolt! I just read in the latest issue of Classic Trucks on that very question to heat up and put some beeswax on it. The heat draws the beeswax in and lubes it up. Then just drive it out. When I did mine I used PB Blaster,tapped on it, let it set and drove out with a punch. They can be very stubborn. Have fun and good luck!

Hey son i believe that driving them out from bottom is best as the top i think is Serrated .. both achip and chev4t6 have good ideas to loosen them up .Later Earl

The hinges on my 46 are in bad shape.the passenger side hinges were rusted so bad that when I finally got the door open ,the whole hinge instead of rotating on the pin..the whole hinge turned..no hope for them..is there any where to purchase new hinges..I have never seen any on ebay??

yeah the whole hinge bent...i worked with this hinge for a week..in the end there was nothing to do but break it off..both top and bottom was totatly rusted solid..almost as bad as being welded....no choice there..

Thanks guys....nice to know There is some stovebolters so close..I work in Taylors at the what used to be Steelheddle..its now GTP..we have a good machine shop there...i'm owed a few favors...maybe I can come up with something there as well..The clubs car show in june sounds good...maybe being around all them cool rods will get me cranking...all your help is appreciated..I just happend to stumble across this sight late one night...I love it....good stuff here...
