The effect is cool. I paid $10. for it about 18 years ago.Try and find one now, good luck. They are how ever cumbersome and ugly, not for every one. They are a period item tho!!!lol Lothar | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 7 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 7 | Never seen it before and everyone I showed had no idea. Now I've seen two. Thanks for the information on this, wait until I tell these guys what it is. They won't believe it. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 | They're called "swamp coolers". Not sure why, Scott Because when the water starts to green up, it smells like a swamp?

Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 | It's an evaporative cooling "system" perhaps "swamp" because it's wet, or because it's simple/primitive? A family member had one to cool his store, and another family member had a big one for a movie theater. From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evaporative_cooler"small-scale evaporative coolers are called swamp coolers by some users due to the humid air conditions produced."
