For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 33 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 33 | Just like to say I found a suitable rear end for the panel project. I wanted a rear of similar width to the stock with disc brakes, built-in E brakes and 3:42 to 3:73's. I also wanted GM and nothing smaller than 8.5 10 bolt. Turns out the Blazer/S10/Sonoma ZR2 off road model(around 96 & up) model had such a rear end. (3:73's) They were a shortened version of the full size pickup. The regular S10 only had a 7.65 10 bolt and was clearly not wide enough. The ZR2 width was 3/4" wider than stock.
The one I found was $560. tax in and in very good shape including rotors, e-brake etc.
A downside might be the limited slip called Eaton Gov Lock may be problematic if abused. Probably means staying way from drag racing and excessive tire spinning.

It's within half an inch of being the same width. It's a 10 bolt, live rear end with 3.06:1 ratio. It's not in yet, but I hope to modify the spring brackets to make it work. This unit was behind the 396 so I'm sure it can handle my stovebolt six. | | |
