I was amazed at the difference it made in my '56.

The 46 steering box principle is still in use today. It is the recirculating ball type of steering box and with proper lubrication should work very easily for you. Just as an example, the early Mustangs use the same type of box. Joe

I went back to the older box. I know wish I had it back! I tightened up the sector gear to remove most of the steering wheel play and added grease to the steering box. After doing this good steering control plus ease of steering for this period/age of truck returned along with peace of mind. Having a truck wandering all over the road is a bit unsettling to say the least.
