As I inch may way along...I have an old Edmunds intake that I want to put on my '60 235. I have 3 centering rings for the intake. These are stepped for adapting an earlier intake to the late 235. Problem is the intake bore is too small even for these. The inside diameter of the centering ring is about the intake bore side. I assume there is yet another size centering ring for my manifold (Edmunds). If so, does anyone know of a source for these? The only other thought I have is to bore out the intake to accept the centering rings I have.

Dennis - I think it is best to bore the intake ports and use the later rings. That way everything lines up as close to stock and as slick as possible rather then having two or more steps. It may cost you a little more to have the intake bored, but I think you will be happier with it in the end.

Thanks Joe. Any suggestions for boring it out? I would guess I would have to have a machine shop do this. I don't think I could open it up precise enough to not have leaks. I'm sure someone has adapted one of these to a late 235. What did you do?

I took a scap piece of plywood and drilled holes where the intake ports are of the head. I then used a pattern cutting router bit (the kind with the bearing on the bottom) and used the cyl head ports as a guide to cut the plywood ports. I then used THAT as a guide for my router, with a bearing on top bit, and cut the intake to match the head. A bit tedious but it was fun and I did it myself. I gooped it up with some high temp RTV at assembly and cut the excess off afer it dried. Leak free after about 2000 miles now. Good luck

I had a machinest enlarge the ports. Most can do it fairly easily.

Hmm. I think I'll give the router a whirl. Sounds like fun Shipwright. Thanks for your suggestions.

DennisM, I've ran that 216 intake on my 261 with no trouble without the ring. A muffler shop could make an adaptor ring stepping up from small hole to larger, just using exhaust tubing.

Thanks everyone. I now have the step rings in place. By the way, the step is on the outside so it is a smooth path as far as the air is concerned.
Now on to the next step.
