I plan to rewire the truck soon, currently I have a older Altenetor with an exteral regulator that I would like to replace at the same time. I see from other posts that the Delco 12si altenator is one people have had good luck with. When shopping for new wiring harneses it seems that you can only get a 12 volt harness for altenatores with internal regualators. I think the mounting for those alternators is pretty universal, it should fit right on your existing bracket.
Did you transpose a word in your post...internal/external in regards to the available wiring harness.
If a wiring harness is available that is constructed for a internally regulated alternator, you are all set. Isn't this the style of the 12si!

The 12SI was typically a higher amp. 78-94 amps was what they came in. The 12SI and 10SI will both bolt up in place of the 10DN that you are currently running. Only difference was that on some of the 12SI alternators they had a slick mounting hole on the adjusting ear and internal parts of course. If your going to upgrade to an internally regulated alternator I would suggest going with a self exciting one wire Delco. Its a lot cleaner, neater wiring set up.
