What is that stuff? Its used in the gauges, switches, etc. Non conductive, brown in color, pretty thin (between 1/16" - 1/8"), and almost looks like an old version of what todays circuit boards are. If you know what that stuffs called or where to find it please let me know! Ill tear something out of the dash board and get a picture if my vague description isnt cutting it... I think you are describing Garolite. It is available from McMaster-Carr in a bazillion different sizes and types of construction.
If you have a motor shop (electric) near you, you might hoof in and see if they have any scraps laying around.
