Looking more closely in the gallery, I see some bolts have a roof painted white and some are body color. I can't see any correlation with roof color and back window size, chrome windshield molding presence (this being possible evidence of a deluxe cab package), engine size, or GMC/Chevy brand. Was a white roof a stand-alone option, part of another package, or something done later in life? White roofs: 8thAirForce's '58 Stepside with painted grill TxPete's 58 stepside with painted grill lms1943's 58 stepside with chrome grill Non-white roofs: Hairbag's '58 stepside with painted grill Red58's fleetside with chrome grill Cliff's '59 twin to my '58, with painted grill Stevie-t's '59, the holy grail of originality, is loaded to the gills with options. He has both a white roof AND a white band at the back glass which opens another can of worms! Thoughts? Bill

| | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | the color patterns were independently optional - white roof was just part of a 2-tone paint job ....the pattern on mine is one particular style 2-tone, with Bombay Ivory being the 'white' like nearly all of the 2-tones - only exceptions to the Ivory [other than custom orders] was 2 greens, 2 blues, or black/yellow ... and I believe the grille [and other trim] color was actually called Artic Beige, a slightly gray white, where the Bombay Ivory was slightly tan and I've only seen it listed as part of the 2-tones, not a 'stand alone' color
oh, and Stevies has another 2-tone style, with the back pillars roof color

About the band at the back glass: was the band available only with a different colored roof, or could you get just a band, but not a roof? (I see that 10 years after Task Force, definitely the band and the roof would Come Together as a package deal.) It is interesting how the color scheme changes depending on your view. From the rear, the lighter color dominates. From the front, the darker color dominates. From the side, it looks 50/50.
