I would like to explore using a later engine without heavy butchery. Would some of you experts, that have been around the block a time or two, please share some advice. I would also consider changing to a later 4 speed trans. but once again, I don't want a bunch of carving to do it.

| | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 684 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 684 | Alan I put a 235 in a '33 truck which is basicaly the same as the 29. I had to change the crossmember at the bell housing to one from a 37 truck, other years of the era would probably work.
The 29 engine is longer then the 216 or 235 so I had to modify the front mount to support the engine. I don't know what you intend to do with this truck but if it is not going to be driven a lot I think I would just try to rebuild the present engine.

I am not set on an absolute original engine or trans, but would like it to be nearly correct. I would like to use a later model 235 if possible with a late 40's 4 speed trans. Is that possible without chopping into the truck much?

Thanks for your ideas. I will keep my eye open for a fifties 235 and also a mid 40's 4 speed. If you have nay other ideas on bringing a 1929 vintage truck back to life, let me know. I live in a rural area and would like to use this truck, not just as a show piece but as a working piece of equipment for use on my farm. I know it would be lots of work but I have an, "in the drive-line" aux overdrive that I may look at installing to up the road speed a little. Thanks again for your comments.

They are about 1-1/2 inches longer than a 235 and have much better heads and metal quality, and you can get them up to 302 cubic inches.
The mid 40's 4 speed is going to be a crashbox, synchros didn't show up until '48 in the AD trucks.
