For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 28 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 28 | Just received my '55 2nd series kit, and noticed it mounts differently than most other vendors kits. Instead of the usual triangle bracket welded to top of the frame, it has a longer bracket, with two bolt holes. This actually raises the gearbox 1 1/2" higher. Instead of the normal 3 bolts thru the frame, this kit only has two bolts in the frame itself, and two thru the welded bracket. Was wondering if this was the right bracket, and how raising the gearbox would affect the geometry of drag link, etc. etc. Anyone used this kit?? Thanks. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,102 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,102 | Marc, There are a wide range of kits out there for various type PS conversions. What type of gear box are you installing? Saganaw, Toyota, Other? Fred

I'd like to see pics of your install. I'd like to do the same to my '59 in the near future.
Thanks,

The one that I bought mounted very easy. I used a steering box off of a late 70 chev truck and a pitman arm off a 70-72 Malibu. The kit works great but I did have issues with bump steer after installing. To fix the problem I flipped the tie rod on the drag link to make it more level and that fixed the bump steer issue.

This post is interesting because I would like to do my 58 one of these days. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though.
