Just received my '55 2nd series kit, and noticed it mounts differently than most other vendors kits. Instead of the usual triangle bracket welded to top of the frame, it has a longer bracket, with two bolt holes. This actually raises the gearbox 1 1/2" higher. Instead of the normal 3 bolts thru the frame, this kit only has two bolts in the frame itself, and two thru the welded bracket. Was wondering if this was the right bracket, and how raising the gearbox would affect the geometry of drag link, etc. etc. Anyone used this kit??
Thanks.

Marc,
There are a wide range of kits out there for various type PS conversions. What type of gear box are you installing? Saganaw, Toyota, Other?

i installed the sagnaw box on my 53. with the longer bar welded to the top of the frame. it looks good the company i bought my kit from sold me the instsall kit drag link and pitman arm it is all made to work together all the geometry is correct.but double check the mesurments in the directions mine would have set the box 1.5 inches off and nothing lined up and the drag link was to short if installed using the directions. if you want i can post some pics of my install for you

53Chev,

I'd like to see pics of your install. I'd like to do the same to my '59 in the near future.

Thanks,

Lane

I did a power steering kit on the 59 from Chevy Duty years ago and the kit that you describe sounds different then the one that I bought awhile back. The one that I bought mounted very easy. I used a steering box off of a late 70 chev truck and a pitman arm off a 70-72 Malibu. The kit works great but I did have issues with bump steer after installing. To fix the problem I flipped the tie rod on the drag link to make it more level and that fixed the bump steer issue.

Classic parts shows 2 different kits in their catalog. This post is interesting because I would like to do my 58 one of these days.
