Here are a couple of things that would have been original to your model that you may want to consider for the swap.

Common 5 speeds in C60-C65's were Clark 282 and 285 models. Rear ends are determined by capacity and basically what I remember is that the 15K w/ 2 speed was a vacuum operated Chevy rearend. The 17500, 21K were Eaton electric operated 2 speeds. I doubt you'll find any 21K's in C60's but a ton of them had 17500's. Very common farm trucks with 7K front axle's, 9:00 rubber and 6:50/7:17 rear ratio. Hope this is of some value to you.

ps...you didn't say what your truck now has but the assumption is that it is a single speed rear, (?) The model and ratio may still be visable on the inside of the glove box door.

Thank you for you help. No my truck has an electric 2speed rear.not a vaccum one. I want to make it go faster then 45 mph. and it has a 4speed i think it is not the original. so i need to look for a Clark 282 or 285 tranny then. and i have 9*20 wheels

Derek,

Before considering another trans, I would first check to see exactly what rear-end ratios you have. A too low gear in high range could possibly be the problem all the long. Try to see if you still have a label on your glove box door for the ratio numbers.

69chevdump,

There is no question your Eaton two speed rear end is actually shifting into the direct (HI) range!

Do find out what the high side ratio is in the rear, and then use this site for calculating speeds. http://www.drivetraindirect.com/t_gear_calculator.htm

If you know what rear you have you can find out what faster gears are available, and if that's all you need to go as fast as you want.

Why don't you want the two speed? Most (if not all) two speed rear axles share a housing with a single speed model, so a single speed center section probably fits in place of your two speed if that's what you want.

You may still need an OD to go as fast as you want, but lets do this one step at a time.

What engine do you have, and does it have a completely round flywheel housing that the transmission bolts to with 12 bolts? or not?

Is it shifting to the high side in the rear?

Grigg,

Not to answer for Derek, but I went thru step by step details on it with him a short while back and he said he could tell it did shift.

This has been a puzzle with a few of us, that hasn't been solved yet. I believe he either has a very low geared high range rear or a 5-Speed trans that won't go into 5th for some reason.

I remember that thread, did not realize we were talking about the same truck...
This is the original thread https://www.stovebolt.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Main/22851/Number/154993#Post154993

Seems we have already been over this, and he needs to do some checking and trouble shooting before anything else.

Bill, thanks for answering.

Yes that is the truck we are talking about. I have done alot of troubleshooting and for somereason the truck does have a very low rear end but should have a 5 speed but looks like it was switched out for a 4 for some odd reason im checking into the rear gearing soon as i get a chance to get out there.

Hey 69chevdump can you get some good pictures of the transmission for us I am sure I could ID it for you? How many PTO ports dose it have? A swap from a 4spd to a 5spd shouldn't cause this trouble unless the original 5spd was an overdrive and they are rare believe me I have led a long search for an OD.5spd.
