on my 62 K-3000 you have tail light's left turn right turn
no left brake. . . tail light's. . . left side blink's but no brake light. . .
How can i have a turn signal with out a brake light ? it's the same wire same elements ! it's an LED Light so no dual filament to fail. . . passenger side work's perfect. . .

Could there be 2 seperate brake light switches ?

You have some bad contacts in the turn switch.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

The problem is turn signal switch, or turn signal switch harness. It's too early in the morn. I'll check my shop manual after my second cup of mud.

Wrenchbender, got it! My guess would be that the contact over heated and moved in the plastic. It's possible that there could be some grease or debris not allowing it to make contact with the leaf spring. There isn't any real way for dirt to get into the switch. You might as well buy a new one. The time put into pulling the steering wheel and figure out it can't be fixed, would be doubled if you don't have another on hand.IMHO

so it's the singal switch causeing the BRAKE LIGHT to malfunction on the one side ?

LIGHTS:

Left turn works

Right turn works

Both tial lights work

Right brake light works

Left brake light DOSE NOT WORK. . .

Honestly the singal switch will cause a brake light malfuntion ?

sorry for the shaken confidence just don't wanna buy somthing i don't need ! i'm over budgeted right now to many iron's in the fire so to speak. . .

There are only three wires that go to rear lights, one is tail/license lights, the other two are turn/brake lights. GM ran the brake light thru the turn signal, if they hadn't then the brake would be on the rear lights all the time and you wouldn't have turn signal. The turn signal switch has six contacts flasher, brake, and four contacts for the rear lights. Two of the contacts for rear lights are turn and two brake. There are two leaf spring contacts one for each side, that short contacts. The brake contacts are always shorted, when signal for a turn the leaf lifts from the brake and shorts the turn. It's all in the shop manual, well in the 64 up supplement anyway. 8-)

I agree with Rusty. Take out the taillight housings and clean up the rust around where the metal of the housing and the metal of the body meet. That is your ground. Use some small star washers on the screws when assembling.

I got 4 LED tail light's from farm & fleet mounted in 4 new metal hanger's every thing is new there is NO rust to Clean. . . this ain't no pickup truck guy. . . as for a ground truck's chassie has been stripped and repainted so I had go threw and reground every thing even used them shnazzy star washer's stainless bolt's and such. . .the singnal switch is more than likely the problem as it's 45+ year's old along with the badly rotten cab it's in. . .I'm hopping to have a new cab this summer so this should be the last summer i gotta cruze around in a rotten cab. . .But thank's for your in put guy!

Ok that make's good sence i'll change out the Singnal switch see what I get. . .any Idea on who might have one or could get one ? Gm dealer / weaver, Napa, Carquest, checker auto, or even autozone ? or will this not be a part store type part ? I do have an old truck part dealer in town they stock or can get part's from the teen's on up. . .I may wiat till i get the new cab ! to fix it if it's going to cost $ $ $ as I don't really wanna put new part into a cab thats about to fall off I'm sure ya can understand that. . .

I don't think your going to find them locally, I did once at a wrecking yard. Try Classic Parts, LMC, I've found the Filling Station to have the best price.

I would to have a new switch in stock and ready to go when the new cab is found. . .We got a J&H auto part's store here they do have classic vehicle part's from the teen's to present. . .

they have had every thing I need so fare or could get what i needed within 72 hour's. . .

The only way the part and labor would be wasted is if you don't plan on puting the exsisting column in the new cab, am I wrong?

Had the same thing happen to me. Turned out to be the turn signal switch. Changed that out and everything has worked fine.

Just for a giggle....put a new ground strap from the box to the frame...I had a '79 chev which burnt up 3 turnsignal switches because 8 steel bolts holding the box to the frame, not 1 was a good ground! every fix I threw at it would "fix" it for a few days...I even put in a new harness with a new ground point on the box but it doesn't help if the box ain't grounded.... ohwell
