through the block that feeds the rockers..there
are othere holes on each side where this line
goes through...what are they for?

If no filter the hole just has a pipe plug in it. The hole towards the rear is where the fitting for the oil pressure guage line goes. If running a filter,there is a brass tee there. No filter, a brass elbow for the oil pressure guage. | | |

side..I believe these hole's are covered by the
side pan (pushrod pan)

If you mean under the side cover, I believe those holes are there for the oil to drain back to the pan. | | |
