Okay I need to know where to put what heater hoses and attach them to what. I have the heater core in the truck mounted to the firewall and I know it works because I did a pressure test, and motor test before I put into the truck.

I also have the heater knob labeled 'warmer' on the bottom side of the dash.

I also want to put a shut off valve from the motor to the heater core just in case the core starts to leak I can shut it off.

Now I need to know where the hoses go?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I believe it's the same as my 216 which is one on the thermostat housing & one to the waterpump.

You must have the deluxe heater. The heater knob you speak of is connected to the shut off valve. There will be 2 connections on the firewall for it. Run one hose from the thermostat housing connection to one of these connections. Run another hose from the other connection, through the firewall, to the heater core. A third hose will run from the heater core, out the firewall, to the water pump connection.

It is very common to find that the thermostatic switch (shut-off valve) no longer works. You may need to re-build it.

Thanks Cletis. Nice to hear from you again.

Does it matter which one of the thermostatic switch hose connectors it goes to first? Not sure how this thermostat switch works? Looks kinda simple. Mine turns freely and seems to move in and out like one would think it should. Seems like the turn knob just moves a plug in and out of a valve? Is this right?

Rebuilding the thermo switch involves what? I guess there is a rubber grommet that is in there? If it is not working correctly does the thermo switch leak?

Much thanks for the info.

On your hoses,,,run the top thermostat housing to the heater shutoff valve and the lower return that is on the water pump...this will give you a shutoff to the heater core if you have a leak as the top hose is on the preasure side of the cooling system and the one to the water pump is just a return...doc

I've never rebuilt one myself but I read in one of the forums about it. Tried a search and couldn't find it. Seems like it was as simple as replacing a seal or O-ring.

The supply hose can go to either valve conection.

Okay, just got the thing put together and ya the valve leaks bad and will need to be replaced or repaired. Leaked all over the inside of the cab. What a mess. Now I have taken up the floor mat, the insulation mat and the sound deadener. Had to take off the accelerator pedal too.

What is the wire that looks like a tempature sensor wire? And where does it go? This wire is coming off of the heater control valve. It has a little loop on it like it is supose to be screwed to something, but what?

Thanks again for the info and help.

That temperature sensor wire is a capillary tube that is screwed into the side of the hump on the lower part of the firewall (the screw goes through the firewall mat/cover/pad "dash mat)", near the floorboard.
