The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Doors Window channel dilemma

I am rebuilding the doors on my 49 Burb.On the passenger side door the channel closest to the front appears to have broken due to fatigue etc. at the bottom of the channel where it attaches to a bracket inside the door. It is loose banging around the bottom of the door. I looked at the driver door and it looks to have been spot welded from the factory. No way I can get a welder in there to reattach. Any ideas on best way to reattach. Would JB Weld work?

Been there and done that. Our 47 had the same trouble. I got down inside the empty door shell and pop rivited one from another truck in it place. It going to be a *****, but you'll live though it. Remember to get rid of all the old one. Its spot welded at the top and the bottom both. I took a dremil tool, ground and cut out the old parts. May take an hour or so to get it all off, as here hardly any room to work. When drilling the rivits inside at the bottom, I had dennis look down though the top and tell them where I was at. Drill the holes in the lower end of the channel before you put it inside the door, so then you only have to drill though one piece of metal. I used a very small vice grip clamp to hold it to the bracket before drilling. Try to find a steel pop rivit, not an alumnum one.

Can you drill the spot weld out and do a plug weld to reattach it?

wounder if someone could post a pic of the channel on the 49 doors and\or give a good measurement of it .i intend to make some new pieces for my doors witch are 54 doors witch i am changing to single glass thanks layback.
