However, I have been using it for the past couple of years for help with restoring my 57 Chevy 210 Sedan, faithfully equipped with the tried and true 235! Many thanks to the people that have helped me with this process. I am proud to say that the Chevy is finished.
Back to the subject at hand.. I am presently looking at purchasing another project vehicle.. a 50 Pontiac SilverStreak equipped with an in-line 8 and hydromatic 3-speed. The engine runs great, and I would like to keep it, but I HATE that tranny! Does anyone know if the 700R4 or 200-4R will bolt up to that engine? I know I'll have to get a new rear-end with open driveshaft, but I need to know if either of these trannys would work... or if an adapter plate exists. Any information on this would help greatly!
Thanks for all of your help.. Even if it is for a Car!

The Pontiac never used any thing but a 350 or 400 Turbo and the bolt patterns were different from the Chevrolet. Some sort of a adapter will have to be used for anything other than whats in it. Are you sure the side mounts are not part of the transmission? Joe

Just have to get used to the R being where Low usually is now, and maybe no park position on that early of one. That's part of the "charm" of owning classic stuff, it's different! When you shift the gearshift lever to reverse and shut the engine off, that transmission will lock into park and the car will not move.. If it goes forward smoothly and backs up, what is to hate ? They were used all through the '50's and known as a durable transmission..I agree with GL..
