Does anyone know what years of stovebolt short stepside boxes are identical (or direct bolt-in replacements)? Someone told me that I could replace my '58 box w/ up to an '87 short step box (& redrill the bedsides to mount the '55.2-'66 style rear fenders)? Any help will be appreciated.

'55 2nd to '87 are more or less identical. I beleive that there are some differences in the cross sills and the wood for the floor, so expect to have to relace them to get a proper fit. A ggod place to check on what exactly is different regarding the sills and wood is Mar-K. They have diagrams of most all years of the beds and what components are used with which year. They also have complete beds (minus fenders) if you decide to go thet route.

If you want the fenders to line up with out drilling holes 55-66 will work.The 60's beds are in best shape the one's i have bought.You can also buy bed sides aftermarket if you are building a show truck.You can get almost any part for your truck from the after market now adays.I use chevy duty or classic truck parts for my resto jobs because they have very nice quality parts.

Apache, I just picked up a complete box at a swap meet. It came off a 67-72 series stepside. Once I got it home, I measured everything carefully and I am happy to say that the sides, front and tailgate are the same sizes. The holes for the fenders ARE different (as stated earlier), the cross braces under the bed are really close, but just 2 of the mounting supports will need to be drilled out and relocated outward by a few inches to mate up with my 57 short step side frame. With the cost of the aftermarket metal (and sometimes less than desireable fitment) I try to keep my truck all Chevy. Hope this helps!
