im thinking of using locust wood in my bed has anyone used it how does it look ?
i would think it would hold up very well

I suspect how well the bed wood holds up depends more on the finish used than the type of wood. This is especially true if your truck is mostly show and not a work truck. The sun, rain, and a car wash may be the worst things that happen to the show truck, but the work truck bed has to hold up against a lot more abuse and the durability of the wood itself is more important.

Locust wood is very durable. I have seen it last well as siding (it was so hard that nail holes had to be drilled) but have not seen or heard about its durability as bed word.

Here is an evaluation of the characteristics of black locust wood. They tested a variety of things, including paint adhesion and durability as dorm flooring.

years ago my brothers father in law would order locust post from the mountain to use as fence post. Seems even the wind,rain and dirt didn't bother it much...as least for many many years. I would imagine that it would be great for bedwood. I'm curious as just how the "color" would turn out if finished with clear.
