The carb has an auto choke that works great, but I wanted to buy a rebuilt carb with auto choke (rest of carb is rough). Chevy Duty told me that the 54 trucks did not come with carbs with auto choke - only the 54 cars. Other autoparts store NAPA for one, cannot order one for me.
1st question, should I buy a rebuilt carb for 54 car and will it fit? 2)If so where's a good source? or 3)should I just pull it and rebuild it myself?

#32098 05/14/2004 12:08 AM | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 | You can rebuild these carburators yourself pretty easily. The trickiest part about them is keeping the air horn gasket from leaking.
You may find the power piston hanging up in the bore, just use some rubbing compound as a lapping solution to get it moving freely and flush it out really well.
Quite a few of us here have done them so post any problems here.
