Also have my 37 Chevy 1/2 ton thats been powered by a modified 261 for 6 years.I'm seriously thinking of pulling the 261 and dropping in a built 292.I did some measuring, the 292 is the same length as a 235/261 without a shortened water pump so its about 2 inches too long, no problem, move the radiator foward. A bigger concern is the rivited crossmsmber that supports the bellhousing on the truck.Do any of you have or seen a 250-292 engine sitting in 37-40 truck? was the crossmember modified for clearance? I'm thinking the bottom of a typical small block clutch housing will foul the crossmember. Perhaps a cast iron small block with the removable inspection pan will clear.

I think that the GMC radiator will work for an inch or more clearance at the front of the engine as the GMC radiators sit more foreward, not at an angle like the Chevy radiators.

The engine mount brackets are easy to make and I made a tranny crossmemeber for a the truck 6 years ago, its bolted in but not used with the 261 engine and transmission.I suppose the best way is to pull the present drivetrain out and install the 292 to see what's in the way, and go from there.

The 292's side motor mounts interfere with the steering box and the engine is a couple of inches longer. I had originally planned on an electric fan (the radiator can't be moved) but now am considering modifying the firewall to move the engine back. A GMC 270 or 302 would work a whole lot better but I wanted to remain all Chevy with more modern power. Good luck, let me know how it works if you do the conversion. web page
