At least that's what Carter's ad copy read in the early 1950's. The only thing a Rochester does better than a Carter is LEAK! Now, if you'll just run one carb instead of two, you'll cut your problems in half, and then some. Other than looks, there's no reason to run multiple carbs on a stovebolt.

Currently my truck runs GREAT w the original Rochester. It has never leaked and the truck will start instantly when warm. When it hasn't been started in a couple of weeks I simply pull the choke, pump it once and you might hear the starter turn once or twice before it starts. In short, it starts faster than any fuel injected car I've ever had. (a long list). Also, if I drive like my wife, I can get up to 20 mpg. I average 16-17. So why am I going to the 2x1? I think I need my head examined. :confused: | | |

I need to get 58-60 mph for what I use it for. The plan is a brownie auxilary trans, the corvette split exhaust manifold and 2X1 carbs. I believe the combo will work fine. The brownie alone will give me the gears but I will run out of engine therefore I need more fuel and beathing. I may even go to a 261. | | |

On my 1954 sedan with a 235 engine, adding a 2 x 1 with Rochester carbs added 8 m.p.h. to my 1/4 mile speed at the drags. I went from 77 mph to 85 with no other changes. Stock exhaust manifold with 2nd outlet added between rear two exhaust ports on both carburetion setups. Mileage went down about 2 m.p.g. but I thought the extra power was worth it. | | |
