For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 6 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 6 | Bear with me guys i'm new to these trucks but i'm a long time gear head. This is my dad's truck and i'm lookin for some help. My question is suspension related. I've heard that you can swap the suspension crossmember and front end from a 73-87 full size chevy under the frames of these trucks with a little modification. Has anyone done this and if so what does it take? Thanks in advance guys | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | I can't answer your question but someone else will be along later. If not you may be able to sneak this question in on the General Truck Talk forum??? I just want to welcome you to the Stovebolt. Lots of good Bolters and info here. Also glad to see another Panel guy! Enjoy the fun, its just beginning. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 1,132 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 1,132 | Elcoloco, welcome to the bolt. I have done this swap on my 49 suburban. My front end came off of an 84 GMC 1/2 ton. Do a search for the Andereggen/Joyce IFS swap. If you like go to my photo album for pictures of how I did it. It bolts up to the AD frame and you end up with front disc brakes, IFS and power steering if you want it and its a TRUCK front end. I keep going round and round with what to do to my 53 panel figuring I can change my mine as many times as I want right up until its "D-Day". Looking at your pic it appears you did nothing to your frame but roll the GMC under it and bolt it on. IS THIS CORRECT? And what did you do for steering box? Did I not find all the pictures? That may be the problem and would answer all my questions. Oh, good work pal. I like what you have done. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 6 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 6 | The picture looks great. I tried a search and i couldn't find any info. What did you do to locate where to attach on the rails? I'm also curios on the steering box/shaft.
