I looked at a burb this weekend that will be mine soon. It is a 58 with a little quarter panel damage but the rest is straight. I am sooo happy. It is soo way cool.

I do need to ask if there is a good source for parts, interior mostly. I will need seats. I have some to put in there but would love to find originals.

The frame, firewall and dash are in excellent condition. It hasn't been cut on at all. It is just a shell so we will have alot of work to do on it but it will be well worth it.

Does anyone know if the burbs had a two tone paint scheme back then? I thought about doing the top white and the bottom either turqouise or surf green. I am soooo excited. I will post pictures when I finish paying it off.

the parts that aren't the same as the pickup are not repro'd, so yer lookin for good [or 'workable'] used - the original seats you prolly know, were unique to the burb, and scarcer than hens teeth, especially the middle and rear - I'm helping a buddy install seats in his 56 panel, and the 60-40 seat from 88+ GM pickups fits the front pretty well, but doesn't hinge up the way the burb originals did - the 60 part could work for the middle seat as well

there were a couple 2 tone schemes, including similar to what you suggest

We got seats out of a 90 model van that has captian chairs and the rear seat is an electrical folding couch. They look so big compared to the interior of the burb so we will just have to measure.

Now two of the back windows they tried to cover up I guess to make a panel truck. How hard is it to find the frames for the sliding windows? I have a guy in town that cuts glass as long as you have a pattern so that isn't a problem, I might just need some window frames.

I am also thinking of changing out the front clip to a 55. I love the single headlights and just can't get used to the double headlights. I feel bad about doing that though, like I'm hurting the truck. I will have to think about it for a while before I decide.

I just can't wait to get it home to start on it. Maybe I need to pimp my husband out to get it here sooner. :o)

to me the problem with seats like that is the height - need to be lower so when you look in from the front or back you just see the top of the seatback - having that headrest part stickin up just don't suit

the window hardware will be a problem unless you can find some loose from a really wrecked burb - one of the scarcer items I think

for the front clip, be aware that the hood hinge mounting points are slightly different between the early and late Task Force trucks, and it can be a hassle to get things to fit, also the 58/9 frame is about 2" longer at the front because of that gravel pan below the grille - it hasta be cut as shown here by the chalk mark , then ya hafta drill new holes for the bumper bracket - the 4eyes will grow onya with time, I solved the problem by having onea each

I haven't thought about the height of the seat but will keep that in consideration. I am just really excited.

I really appreciate the advice on everything that you have given me. I have never started on a project like this before. My 70' was complete and we just modified it but this is just a shell. I will have to do wiring, gas tank, wipers, ac, interior,door pins, motor, tranny, everything. I am trying to figure out what I want now so I don't have to change later. My husband wanted to put three rows of seats and I told him I need a cargo area for groceries, spare tire, jack and the like. Does it have a place for the spare already? I didn't think about looking at that when we were there.

Hey Debbie Jo, congrats on the purchase. My wife and I have a 64, different I know, but lots of fun! If you go back original, then it is a no brainer, but if you're thinkin' about mods, I'm gonna suggest looking at as many later 50 year mod trucks and suburbans as you can find (especially burbs) in like back issues of truck mags. Know anybody with a stack of them? That way you can SEE what you like and don't like the looks of, such as the seat change etc prior to the drilling. I like the sound of a fold-out bed...never thought of that and didn't know they existed....Good luck with it! Oh, and I say pimp the man and focus on what is important!

If I don't go original then I will go rat rod. I have a 55 pickup but it needs alot of help.

We like the fold out bed for the two little ones, am planning on putting in a DVD player, never thought I would do that but that way they are safe and occupied at the drag strip when we go hang out. When it's not a bed it has a middle console that folds down so they won't have to touch each other. We will make that seat work just for the piece and quiet.

I like the 60 model ones too. Thought about trying to find one so I would have a truck from 55, 60, 70 and have a 80 Suburban but it is too new. The burbs are hard to find and was tickled when we came across this one.

My husband loves when I tease to pimp him out. I am lucky he doesn't take me up on it, these small town girls would love to have a fard worker like him and he is easy on the eyes too.

I love the dual headlights myself. Is the fron bumper chrome? Grill? The duals look a lot better when the front is all chrome.
I'm looking to install the rear seat from a minivan as my second seat. The town and country seat folds up and open so you can get it out of the way or sleep on it. I'm just not sure how I'm going to mount it.

A buddy of ours in Austin found it on the way to the crusher. The guy told him that if he didn't buy it, it was on it's way there.

The grill and bumper is oxblood red primer along with everything on the outside of truck.The inside looks to be original white so that is cool. Both bumpers and grille are straight so they can be rechromed hopefully. I just can't wait to get it payed off so we can bring it home and work on it. I am a stay at home mom so I would have plenty of time to work on it, just no money. I am really lucky he found it. When I get it home I will post pictures so ya'll can check it out.

I have a completely original 1958 Suburban Carryall. I'd be happy to send you pictures of whatever areas you want to restore. Also , a lot of parts are available thru Jim Carter, Bow Tie Bits,and Brothers, for the common truck parts and many Suburban parts.
