Hello,
Being fairly new to the Stovebolt site, I need a little insight from you fellow Suburban owners. I own a '57 Burb. Why does it seem like everyone owns a 40's to early 50's burb, not the '55 to '57? I realize there will be a greater production figure based on the number of years in that time frame, but can anyone give me any insight on these numbers? Can you find production numbers anywhere? Whats the story?

I am also brand new here. I have a '58 Burb. Which I have just started working on. I was inspired by the Lucas Oil Top Fuel pullout vechile, which I believe is a '57 GMC Burb. Have you seen it? Also, Classic Chevy had one on the cover in the last month or so, which has been at the Turkey Rod Run, according to the article. BTW, I grew up in Vero Beach.

well, driver, the first production breakdowns aren't available for GM trucks before about the 67-72 models, so it's hard to say how many were produced - aside from the difference in 8 years for the AD and 5 years for the TF, there's no reason except there's just lotsa people [here anyway] who prefer the fat fendered ol bubble bodies of the earlier years - there seem to be more around here, but surely not "everyone" owns them! you might find more later years at the burb site

Actually there are quite a few Task force and later burbs out there and there are a couple on this site too. Check out the gallery for panels and burbs, there are several.

Unfortunately the Burb site is just cyber junk. I joined it a several years ago and the guy just couldn't get enough time to run it (let's give a big hand to John and Peggy for keeping this site going) the Burb Site was last updated: Tuesday August 28, 2001

If you want more task force suburbans on the pages do what I do, every time I see an old bolt I let them know about the Stovebolt.com site and they join. I have opened the doors to about ten people on this site.

I like suburbans no matter what year (actually from 1935 to 1966) and I am always hanging aroung the Burbs and Panels pages. Good luck with your project. ....g

I have to agree with red58 on this one, Task Force Trucks, Panels, and 'Burbs seem to be a minority around here. Not to say that they aren't around, but the AD trucks certainly out number them. I like them all but am partial to the Task Force era (currently working on a 57 Panel) and, IMHO, Panels and 'Burbs RULE!!!

Got another 'Burb for you all. Just added it to the the Gallery -- Eric John's 1946, the "Tinman." He's just getting started on this one.

There may be a lot of the other trucks in here but you all seem to have a pretty tight "group." This forum, as well as the Big Bolts, stays pretty busy. Hence, they were created!

George, thanks for the nice comment. That's why we've been hanging on - sometimes with our finger nails. But it's been folks like you who have really and truly and honestly helped make this place. As Bill, I'd be more of a wreck than an IRWIPI entry!

that's pretty harsh George - cyberjunk? there's lots of TF burbs pictured there and a much smaller percentage of AD's, regardless of current activity, which just goes to show driver that the TF trucks are currently just under represented here - that site also has some good tech info that's mentioned here from time to time - in short, ANY info and pics on the net for old GM trucks is helpful, and if it hangs around for over 5 years, it's worth checkin out, growing or static!

Thanks everyone for the replies! I appreciate the enlightenment. One thing I forgot to add is the availability of parts seems to be greater for the AD trucks as well. Thankfully alot of the truck parts interchange with the Burbs. Another question, Is the frame for a '57 3100 Truck a direct replacement for the '57 3100 Burb?

driver - the AD parts are more year specific than the TF parts, so get more page space cuz there's so many different possibilities the parts for the TF trucks are generally more available, especially mechanical stuff, most from your local NAPA or such, and check the links page here for many repro suppliers - the 'burb/panel specific parts aren't readily available for any year, as those parts aren't being reproduced - anything from the side doors forward is identical to the pickups, as well as all mechanical stuff - the burb/panel frames are slightly different than the pu frames in that they have different back body mount points [on the outside of the frame, which can be removed and added to the pu frame], and there's a short riveted-on frame piece at the back to put the bumper out beyond the rear splash pan, which is the critical difference

Thanks Bill. The specifics you gave on the frame was exactly what I needed to know. I will try to get a pic sent over. Shes not real pretty right now but she was a daily driver when I bought and 99% original - a good starting point.

Great truck, I obviously have a bunch of work to do. Its nice to see some of the finished projects for a little "incentive".

Well........mine is hardly "finished" I spent the majority of my time and money to make it driveable and paint it. There is still a lot to do. I decided that I wanted to enjoy the truck sooner than later. Some guys don't mind taking the time to start from the ground up and do a frame off restoration. I didn't have the time or cash to go that deep. I'm going back and fixing things now as I have time. The next big project is a camaro front clip. I knew that it would be hard for me to stay interested in a project that took 2 or more years to get driveable.
You have to make these decisions too.
