There was a discussion about these here a while back. Here's one on E-bay.
Notice how wide the fenders are. What do you reckon a pair of those would cost, if you could find them?

Here's another one that I thought was interesting as well.

I suspect those fenders were hand made. I say that only because it appears the few of these that exist were conversions created after the truck left the factory.

That verion of the truck isn't listed in the restoration packs I've studied.

I want a set of those fenders but have yet to see any that aren't already on a truck I don't need. I'm thinking I'll make the ones I need.

Hey Steve,
I think they are modified fenders from a builder somewhere. BradB has a dually that I've looked over and there seems to be a seam showing it's age going right down the center of the fender. I don't think the factory offered such a truck or fenders,

Yeah Scott I'd bet you are right. I think it's BradB's truck that I've seen close up pictures of. Doesn't quite look like assembly line work does it.

I have some ideas how I'll want to widen mine, but my dually project is no where near needing a final solution.

I have a 1-ton that is minus all the front sheet metal. You've got me thinking about taking the rotten cab off my 1 1/2-ton and putting the panel body in it's place. Wheel base is about two feet too long, but that can be fixed.

Interesting idea. Not one I'm going to add to my project list.

The '41-'46 era truck in the eBay auction probably has been put together with military stuff. These were made during military production runs in WW2 for use by the signal corps and others. Check out http://www.vehiclesofvictory.com for more information. It's a good site to look over anyway.

1.5 ton duallie panels were offered from the factory during the Art Deco era - there is one in the features page at Jim Carter's. AD trucks never had the option, but it looks like some upfitters did a good job converting them. I've heard that a few may have been made by GM for the military, but they may have been conversions, too.

Notice the running boards on the AD in the auction - flared to match the fenders. Nice work.

Somewhere on the web I have seen an ad for the 1937 panel SEO (special equipment option) ton dually. The running boards on that ad, on the two linked above and on mine all appear to be modified in exactly the same way. The fenders on mine are showing a seam, but my dad tells me you could order the ton dually panel and the conversion was done by Chevrolet to a completed ton panel.

When I get my fenders stripped I will document this better with some good pictures and maybe we can guess what they really did. I always assumed mine were panel fenders that were factory modified. The AD linked above looks a LOT like mine with some mods made. I notice it even has orange fenders, so I wonder if it was another Gulf Oil tanker before they cleaned up the body and changed the rear doors.

Click on my profile. There is a picture of my panel there because I haven't gotten around to getting a picture taken of me.

Check out the side view of that e-bay truck. Is it just me or do the rear wheels sit WAY to far forward in those big fat fenders. Seller says 216 with 12v system tho. And has anyone seen rear windows like that before? Narrow and high? Any guesses as to the reason? Strange.

Joel, I can't get in and look at it right now (site not responding) but I had noticed the same thing about mine. When you look at it directly from the side the rear wheels appear to be a couple inches too far forward. I figured it was screwed up when the PO swapped the axle for an '88 Dana 73. Maybe it is where it was supposed to be after all...

I was definitely planning on moving it back a couple inches when I get the frame and body separated.

By the way, that's the way the rear windows are on mine, except mine have been replaced with louvered sheet metal to ventilate the fumes from the fuel tank. (It was a fuel tanker.)

I would really like to get a better look inside that thing to see if it had the same body mods for a big fuel tank.

This was a fire truck according to ebay seller.
Windows may have come in truck or been added by fire co.
It wasn't that far away from me so I was thinking about going to look at it.
12 volt conversion was done by her father.
I didn't ask about rear wheels but it did look odd to me too.

Its about 400 miles away and I won't see it again to sometime in July when I plan to collect it. I don't have a picture of the serial number plate.

Chevrolet offered as an option dual wheel fenders for the 1.5 ton trucks and to go with them running board extensions to lenghten and widen the boards at the rear. They were availabe for the 131" and 157" wheelbase trucks. They were for the 34,35 & 36 years from the factory.

Kemps are you still around? If so, PM me an email address and I'll email a photo of whatever it has in the door post.

There was a 46 on ebay last year with a ton of pictures.
I scarfed them up for reference.
I think you could "section" and widen fenders
pretty easily if needed.

Kemps a shot of the serial number plate is in your email.

More photos of the truck are available at http://www.oldsub.com/images/2005/07/Springfield/.

You'll have to look through some unrelated stuff, because these are photos of the trip to collect it, but there are shots of the truck in there too.

Its really not much to look at...
