I just wired switches on all the doors to turn on the dome light. Had a little help from the guys at ChevyTalk. The fun part was getting the wire back to the rear door. That took 2 or 3 hours alone.

Yeah those guys at ChevyTalk are great. Which approach did you end up using?

The simple one. I spliced into the ground and ran that wire to all 3 switches. When a door opens the switch grounds and wala! Light!

I just installed a cool retro bypass switch. If the doors need to stay open the switch will bypass the door switches. This was so easy. You guys should try it if you don't have door switches. I just need to figure out how to label it.

I've built a bunch of home audio gear... Amps/pre-amps/speakers.... stuff like that. Whenever I need something marked, and it has to look nice, I take it to a Trophy store. They have the means to engrave on the strangest surfaces. You could also just have them make you a small plaque. You can choose the font to blend with the rest of your dash stuff.

Just a thought. Nice orange color too!

That's a good idea. I was thinking of a chrome plate that sort of wrapped around the bevel of the switch. Like this sort of....

Since none of the other controls are labeled I don't think I'd label it at all. How often do you let anyone else drive it? In the last three years the only other people to drive my Suburban have been the oil change guys...

Since I had to take the inside trim down to snake the wire to the back door I have been thinking how hard it is to get it back up. Sooooo,

Can you tell me where you found the font for the photo of your bypass switch? I think it's called magneto, but I'm not sure where to find it.

I found it on a font search somewhere. It's been 3 or 4 years ago. magneto is correct.

Joker, you could install one switch in less than 30 minutes. It's so simple. All you need is some simple electric connectors, one door switch, a soldering iron and a voltmeter.

garretthes can you give alittle more details. I need to add some to my 49 burb. Is there a schematic somewhere?

Just curious Garrett, did you add an "on" position to the dome light bypass, or do you have that on your headlamp switch?

I have the "on" position in the headlight switch.
