Chevy 3/4 #3 It's a running '63 (or maybe '66) 3/4 ton with a straight 6 (270 ?) and three on the tree. It a leaking rear main seal and it pops out of third gear unless you hold the shift lever. It has a small amount of rust in the cab corners and various small dings and dents all around. Just wondering what ya'all would pay for this truck? He's supposed to talk to the owner tomorrow afternoon!! This is a chance for a hot rod F**d truck loving person from the dark side to come back over to the light!! Please help! DJ | | | | | Joined: May 2004 Posts: 920 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2004 Posts: 920 | That is definately a 63. Of the 60-66 trucks, 63 is my personal favorite. It is the only year that has the wrap around windshield AND the newer chassis that gives you multiple and cheaper options for upgrades or stock parts. In 63, they started using the "ladder" chassis which remained relatively unchanged until 87. (I think). Other with more knowledge will chime in. I'm an inline guy, and a hopped up 250 or 292 would also be a relatively cheap and easy thing to do with that truck. The inline engines available that year were the 230 and 250. I don't think the 292 was a choice then but would still be a relatively easy swap as it shares a similar design/interchangeable parts with the forementioned engines. As far as what it is worth - hard to say. It varies with the region your in. I would also need to see it up close and personal. According to your description, I would be willing to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of 2-3k. Good luck and keep us posted. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 198 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 198 | BigMac.. are you sure that it's a '63. I too have one and by looking at the headlight s it's a '62. '63s have a round headlight bezel(?) that is tight to the light. These are wider on the sides. If I'm right, then it should have the torsion suspention in the front.

Maybe you would give more in Cal., but here it would only be 1500 if you didn't have a blown syncro in the tranny and it was only a slight oil leak. Add those two problem and a man would be hard pressed to sqeeze more than a grand out of me. That being said, it is according to what you are planning. If you are planning a full resto, it is all about body condition. If you are going to go through all your driveline it doesn't matter. A truely rust free c-10 with no motor or tranny might bring 2000 dollars to the right man. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 1,966 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 1,966 | I agree that the grill, headlight bezels and hood (parking lights) all look 62.

Good Luck

I didn't look at the pics close, I just noticed the wrap around windshield. If it does have the front torsion bar suspension and rear coil springs, you can count on being a 60-62. A lot of these trucks have had body parts exchanged over their 40+ years due to accidents, etc... The only way to tell for sure is to check the vin and chassis. Also, if it is 62 or before, it will most likely have a 235 if that is the original motor. The 261 was an option only in 62 for the light duty trucks. I stand by my estimate on the value. But if it is a 60-62, the parts are harder to find and more expensive. To upgrade or restorod it will require some degree of fabrication and/or money. Especially concerning the suspension and brakes. Definately more so than a 63 would. Something to keep in mind. BTW, what are they asking? | | | | | Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 122 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 122 | Thanks for all the good info folks!! They are asking $2000 for it. I told my son to start by offering $1000 and see where it goes from there. Apparently it's been for sale for a couple months (according to a friend of my son's who lives in that area) so I told him if he has to leave his number with the guy to think about it and walk away right now that might be a good tactic. Anyway, if it ends up coming home I'll get some better pictures with a "real" camera and post a report. Thanks again and if anyone has any more opinions or advise feel free to post it as he hasn't met with the seller yet. Anything could be useful up until the deal is made (or not made). | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | Old car price guide shows $1720 in #5 condition. & $2880 in #6 cond. That is for 60-66 but I prefer the 63 up like some of the other bolters. Check the door hinge mountings & door fit. These are hard to get ligned up on these models. I think that's the best body style Chevy ever made in a truck.

He decided that he wanted something "in better shape". I only looked at it driving by and he's the professional mechanic, (and it's his dime too). Anyway, thanks for all the advice! | | |
