I know this is going to sound kinda trivial, but what color are the tail light brackets supposed to on a 47-53 ohwell ? I'm trying to do my 50 back as exactly original as possible (at least other than the drivetrain). If my memory serves me right they were originaly body color "but my memory don't always serve me right. Any help is appreciated, Thanks Guys!

I'm pretty sure they were black, but I'm not certain.

The reason I said that, Chevrolover, is that I find it hard to believe a factory back then would take the extra steps to do something like that for a truck.

Yup, black, as were the lailamp housings. most likely, the lamps and the brackets came alredy painted black from Guide, so no painting of them was done by GM. Seems most lamps manufactured by Guide were painted black by them. Many tractor manufacturers used Guide headlamps as an option back in the '40-'50s. Most of the time, when the housings are stripped for repainting, there's black under the red/green/orange that the rest of the tractor was painted.

I purchased my 1950 3/4 ton from the original owner and many of those small trim items have not been touched. They are also black as everyone has reported.

Thanks guys! grin Reading your posts seems to have triggerd my memory. I had a 53 3100 many years ago and the tail light brackets and housings were black, only the rims of the lights were chrome. I've had 4 more advanced design trucks since but none were all original. The 50 I'm working on now I've owned for 14 years. My goal on this one is to make it appear as original as possible both exterior and interior. Drive train is 283,turbo 350, 76 Nova rearend. Will send pics to the gallery :hammering: as soon as possible.

P.S. There is a bunch of really great people on this site, and I'm glad I found it!

Welcome!
And yes, they were black. I purchased a new set myself. But "dressed" them up with chrome wire covers. Will look nice if I can ever get to working on the truck again!
