We got this question a while ago. Can anyone help this fellow?

My 57 Chevy was assembled in St. Louis. How can I find out what State and dealer it went to when it left the factory?

Thanks,
Peggy

the resto kit info would be the only way, and I don't think the US kit usually has anything close to that specific .... I found out the dealer on a Canadian 57 panel I had, but I think that was because it was a special order

Sometime's a title search will tell where it came from. A few years ago I did a search on a truck and could only go back about 3 owners due to it probably coming from another state BUT sometimes you get lucky and find a good lead. You can also "back track", owner to owner, IF they can remember who/where each owner got it from. Doing this I know where my panel was made, where it went, who owned it,(decendants now live in Texas) and I got it from Florida. The original owners family request pics of it now an when, if ever, I get done with it. Hope this give some ideas.

Edit: each state charges a little for the title search. Probably about $10 now and I think you have to mail in your request.

Just pray that it wasn't California. Our DMV, in their infinite wisdom, purged all DMV records prior to 1972.

NY and VA also have no records prior to 1972.

Due to privacy laws, many states won't give you access to the information even if they still have it. I have struck out regarding a vehicle purchased new in Idaho. I got some vague information regarding ownership from Missouri and as already mentioned, it is not available in California.

Here in Illinois, I got stiffed with a lemon, a low milage used Firebird from a Chevy dealership. I tried to find the PO to see why they traded it in with such low milage and ran into the same thing, privacy laws kept me out. The only way I got the info was because I knew a State trooper and he went under the table and got it for me.
