There was a bracket welded to the top of the axle both sides with a bolt projecting vertically. The springs are tapered, wider at the top and there was a plate on the bottom with a hole for the bolt to go thru. A nut kept them in place.
I have seen leaf overload springs but never coil. It could be some after-market item but the way the bracket is mounted to the axle it appears to be original. It is a Canadian built truck.

Even though the weld looks original, it may still be an after-market item that a competent welder did the install...

The former owners son told me that the truck had been refitted to carry a camper(& messed up the bed sides too). We also had this massive towing hookup so they must have had a boat or RV too. | | |
