The bed top looks square instead of round and the fenders look to be advanced design, what do you think. Dave

Earlier beds were narrower, later beds were wider. A 1940-1946 gmc would have a corrigated steel floor, not unlike modern pickups. Chevies of the same era had wooden bed floors.
I can't tell if your fenders are original or not from the 2 photos you had. They are a bit banged up for sure. If you could post more pics I'll let you know.

How much would this detract from the value of the truck, if I bought it I really wouldn't care about having it be exact original. Dave

All of the pieces and parts that make up the correct bed are available as new replacements and if you look hard enough there are still some originals out there that can be restored. Rear fenders are also available to restore, but I believe the only new replacements you will find are fiberglass.
In any case it would be a shame to let the truck just sit there and waste away | | | | Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 481 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 481 | Dave, the only bedsides I've seen with the 90 degree bends instead of the roll at the top of the bedsides were handmade using a large metal brake. | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 1,158 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 1,158 | Looks like an AD Bed to me. If you're not looking for a trailer queen, that bed should work just fine.
If you want an original style bed, as was mentioned by Kip, the parts are all available for purchase new. | | |
