well, my little mind cranked out a thought today in all the heat. back in the early days car lots put a pot-metal emblem on the trunk lid of new cars with the name of the dealer. what did they do about the trucks ? the heat realy works on the mind does,nt it.?

I've seen them mounted on the rear corner of the hoods on the fat-fendered trucks and on the front fenders of the later trucks. Stands to reason, most tailgates got left down or pitched as soon as it got put to work,

In the north texas area, I always remember seeing the dealer's named stamped or pressed on the rear bumper. I still see that now and again, but not on my 63.

I think the dealer stamped bumper is/was a Texas thing. I don't recall seeing many of them in any other state.

My Brother's '70 CST has them on the sides of the cowl panel between the hood & the doors.

Yes, a.d., up high, almost where the mirror mounts on an AD.

real big here in Ark, they even had a factory in Clarksville Ar building them.

The '71 my Dad used to have had them on the sides of the cowl.

I'll second what '64 said. There used to be alot of bumpers in Arkansas with the dealers name stamped it. When you bought a new truck you had to decide which bumper you wanted them to install on it. The cheaper ones were painted steel with the imprint. The more expensive ones were chrome. Don't remember seeing if the chrome ones were stamped or not.

they were used here until about the mid 80's.

My good friend worked in Jacksonville AR welding up those bumpers until about 1988 or so. I guess that was when enough old men had died off & no longer buying the cheap bumper when buying a new truck. They didn't really "fit" the 88-up GM bodystyle either.

Maybe bumpers became standard in the 80s and it drove the independents out of business. Last new truck I bought was in '72 and had to buy a bumper for it.
