I took my truck on the road for the first time since I got her almost 2 years ago. Don't get to excited though she has no glass, no gauges, no bed, no front fenders but she has a gas tank,a running engine, all new front end and brake parts. (stops good)(also no registration or insurance)

My wife and I had it running in the driveway today and we decided to put a couple of crates in the cab and take a spin around the island in front of our house. It was a good boost on a long time project...100 yards and 4 turns the old girl did really well. (a little jerky but I think that was the driver) I don't think this truck has run on the road in many years.

One question is the acelerator pedal doesn't seem to have much travel, maybe 1.5 to 2 inches. Is that normal??? I seemed to either idle of rev high. Maybe I just need to drive it more

hehehe... the "first" drive is always the most memorable... i did much the same thing with the Ox over 6 years ago... I've got a video of it somewhere.. i'll have to dig it out and see if i can download it.

I wish I had video of it but we were the only 2 there. My teenage son came home with his girl friend just after the event. All they did was shake their heads at us, like disappoving adults to reprobate children.

TRUST ME... a milk crate ride can boost the energy to get a project finished... i wish i could tell ya more about the accelerator issue but mine is is a race car part LOL

keep at it 'bucket... and keep the childlike enthusiasm... it's cool to have the youngins shaking their heads at you...

Sounds fun. The high idle rev could be due to a little tuning needed on the idle screw or the accelator rod is a little stuck. Just do what i did when i first started my car. The accel rod was stuck the thing started and idle at 3000+ rpms and the soybeans that mice had stashed in the exhaust blew some 20 feet back. Ah memories. Anyways good luck at finish the truck

I rebuilt the carb. She idles fine and revs up fine. I just think the pedal travel between idle and full throttle is very short. Maybe normal for these trucks.

No soybeans in my exhaust. My mouse nest was under the seat on the drivers side.

49 Congrats on ride # 1 I did the same for mine on a five gallon can about a year ago with a jerry rigged wire for an accelerator. Had a smile that took weeks to fade. Been down for awhile but just finished rewiring. If I can find out why no power is getting to the fuel pump I hope to be riding again soon.
