My engine and clutch housing was removed, but when I went to move the truck the back wheels were locked. How is this possible. I have no emergency brakes, but it sure seems like its still in gear. How can I unlock them or get it out of gear?

if the back wheels are locked, the best place to investigate is .... the back wheels ..... you still have back brakes?

If the wheel cylinders were "crusty" the rear brakes
applied and didn't come off, take off the wheels, back off the adjuster hit the drum with a hammer and
maybe the drums will come off. :hammering:

You don't have S-Cam brakes do you?

Your profile is a little shy on info so I don't know what kind of rig you're working on. You didn't state that the transmission was removed, only the engine and bellhousing. Where is the transmission? Is this a closed driveline or open.

are your drums rusted on your shoes?, rearend frozen up?, ??? you need to investigate it could be 10 different things.

Here's reason #11 which I discovered today:
The brake material separated and jammed the drum.

I just brought home a 1952 dumper yesterday and noticed the parking brake wasn't working. When I jacked up the truck today, I couldn't turn the driver side wheel. I took off the drum and thought "why the heck is the brake shoe mounted on the top?" Until it fell on the ground! (See first photo).

What ticks me off is that the guy I bought it from claimed he spent $800 on new brakes. I'll be giving him a visit at his office on Monday. :mad:

ya take it with you so you can trow it thew the window guy sold me a vw with new front end i took it to a shop when they pulled the hubs the bearings fell apart they were so old some rebuild
