About three years ago, we wrote to GM to see if we could get permission to use the bowtie and the GMC lettering to go with *Stovebolt* to make up some shirts, or hats or something. Well, they were pretty firm: NO! So, we figured whatever ... It may have been about the same time they were after people like Chevy Duty for using their name. Not sure, since we weren't aware of all that doings until after it was all over and CD had to change their name. But ... with the design of the flag, we ran into a problem. The flag-maker wanted a hold harmless because the drawing of the truck had "Chevrolet" on it. Well, in the meantime, we whited it out. :blat: and went for the draft. But, I wrote to the GM Equity Management folks, never expecting to hear anything good from them. But we did! Got a form to fill out, with a note that it may take 30 days. But this is definitely better than an across-the-board NO to EVERYTHING. So, this is great. There's a cute smiley face that turns into the Chevy bow-tie that I want to get permission to use, too! And they are waving the fee!! This is remarkable. I am amazed and humbled ... and hopeful! Peg

I'll go ahead and grab those now. When I get permission, we'll add them to the hot spots!
Those are clever!

an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.

We just wish they would support the hobby better, sponsor one of the cool GABfest and/or give us some FREE COOL NIFTY stuff to give out.
And ... since I'm at it ... a TOTALLY awesome prize for the IRWIPI contest.
And ... one for the poster contest.
And / or ... do the calendars!!
I'd better quit.

They didn't ask anyone anything, they flat out served anyone they found with cease & desist orders for using thier name, logos, even the model names. You could be the most reputable parts dealer in the world, if you didn't have thier nigh impossible to get letter of permission, you were goin to court! Flippin nuts,... But yeah, good to see people with brains workin on things out there. 1956 GMC 370 dump " 'Tater "1970 VW Volksrod "the Black Bomber" 2007 Chevy Avalanche 2020 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, 2005 Harley Davidson FLHTCUI I dig all cars, old and new, whether they were hammered out of American iron, German steel, or Japanese tin cans. Being unable to appreciate them all is missing out on a world of great things. But thats just MY opinion! :P

I would think THAT would be smart marketing. But, ha! What do we know about marketing?

The only thing more amazing than my ability to cram 60 minutes of work into a 9 hour day is my talent for making it look effortless! Sounds like great news indeed. Good job Peg! How did that old saying go? If at first you don't succeed, try and try again. With all the hits this site generates, and the extremely fast growing membership, it would be foolish for them to overlook the positive free advertising benefits. Maybe they could pay for your air fare to Kansas City in September for the truck show. They could even supply you with a loaner truck to put on display at the Stovebolt Booth. You never know, maybe a wise local KC dealership will offer some assistance first. It may sound a little far-fetched, but it would be a miniscule cost compared to other advertising expenses. Heck, maybe they will provide you with a new "loaner" 3500 Dually to help out on the Christmas tree farm. Dream Big!! Oh, and use of the Bowtie would be super cool too. Like I already said, good job Peg. Keep up the good work. John
