Does anyone know of a source for a hood support prop like this. I saw this one on a rodded out '41 but the guy didn't remember where he got it.

The third item down looks similar but you can't really tell for sure. The description does match though.

Robin48 -- Thanks, I'll see if I can get a better pix of that one although I don't think it is the same as the one I posted.

As far as being homemade... I don't think so. I saw one of these years ago and the guy who had it told me that if came off of such and such kind of truck. Dang if my memory has failed on what he told me. Also, if you look closely, you'll notice that the retainer bracket appears to be stamped. Now, I'm not implying that it can't be made; just that I think its from another application and already being manufactured by someone.

I'm holding pat until we find this thing.

I'd call Steve at Watson-Streetworks and talk to him. He's one of the nicest guys you can meet and will talk to just about anyone on the phone helping them. He may well know who the manufacturer of that product is and have suggestions who to contact.

Robin58 - I spoke to Ron at Watson-Streetworks and the description he provided is that this unit is screwed onto a flat surface. Thanks for the tip though.

Do you offhand remember if it was an adjustable rod? There's one made by Juliano's Hot Rod Parts but unfortunately I don't have a picture of the bracket it uses.

It seems to me that it wasn't adjustable. I'll keep looking and will post here should I find it.

Don, It seems to me that I have seen something like those on an old Dodge truck. I don't know if they are reproduced but it would be nice to find out.

46forme - Your memory serves you much better than mine. Just after your posting I did a search for Dodge Truck Hood Prop and came up with these on eBay. Not that I didn't trust my fellow 'Bolter's, I decided to "win" them prior to spilling the beans. Although they were a bit pricey (a reserve of $75 for the pair) I did get them about 1/2 hour ago. Most of the new hood props I did find were in the same price range.

The following description was in the eBay Listing:
This pair of hood prop rods is used on the T, V and W Series 2wd Dodge trucks from 1939 to 1947 on all the different models made, from the 1/2 ton TC pickup to the 3 ton WK-69, and all styles of Dodge truck for those years, Pickups, Panels, Stake trucks, etc (except for COE ). This was also used on all 1948 to 1950 Dodge B Series 2wd Dodge trucks from 1948 to 1950 on all the different models made, from the 1/2 ton B-1-B pickup to the 4 ton B-2-YA, and all styles of Dodge truck for those years, Pickups, Panels, Stake trucks, Cab and Chassis, etc (except for Power Wagons, and COE.

I wonder if there is a market for them? I did many hours of research but could not locate a reproduction anywhere.

Just cuz they are homemade doesn't mean that they have to look rough. We all have made somthing we are proud of.(usually our trucks)

Dumb question…how did you get the hood side panels to stay up in the photo?? Are the hinges supposed to be stiff ??

Kip - I think this photo answers your question if I understand it correctly. The prop is supporting the side panel and the hood proper.

In this photo I had moved the hood prop to the hood itself, letting the side panel rotate on the hinge to it's natural position.

The hinges are free to work as designed.

Thanks for the follow-up and pictures. After seeing your post back in May, I began a quest to find a set of those Dodge hood props.

I got a pair a couple of weeks back, for $10.00 on E-Bay. Haven't had time to clean them up and put them on the 46 yet, but am a whole lot more motivated now, having seen them on yours.

Man, how come I don't find deals like that? 10 bucks? Great deal for sure. Those props will look real nice on that '46. Enjoyed your "ToyBox" lots of great pix.

Denny - Here is the description from the eBay ad. . Apparently these were a factory item from Dodge or Mopar, but I've been unable to locate any other references. There is nothing complicated about them and of course that's what makes them so nice. If you scroll backwards in the photo links I provided you can see them uninstalled and prior to painting.

As far as driving to Kansas City a whole lot has to happen this week and I'm beginning to think I might not make it. Without some proper shake down cruises it would make for some real adventure albeit some not fun and perhaps costly.

Roberts Motor Parts has them. They even have the replacement rubber tips if the ones you got on ebay are showing their age.

This prop is made for 99 Jeeps but should adapt easily to an AD, don't know if it will work on your 41.

Bill - Where were you back in May when I started this thread? Just kidding of course. Yep, that's the one for sure and would have saved me 25 bucks at the time. Nevertheless, I'm glad someone has finally located this item as I think it's the "Cat's meow" and the best prop for the gull wing type of hood, You know, I bet I spent 4 hours looking for that exact part online but never checked Roberts - My bad.
