I tried asking this before but didn't get any reply.
I read somewhere here about someone doing something like it. The issue seems to be the difference in frame widths, with the older being narrower by an inch.
I want to swap as much as possible, steering, booster, plumbing, motor mounts, motor, trans, etc. I was going to cut the frame and swap the whole front. Someone in the education part here has a step by step.
Go ahead and do it, then tell me what to do different : ) | | | | | Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 2,384 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 2,384 | Don'c cut the frame, the front crossmember unbolts w/about 14 bolts & the later bolts up, although a couple holes may need reemed. The steering gear bolts up after drilling a coupla holes using a REZ Engineering kit. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 45 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 45 | My truck already has a 350 in it with a 350 turbo tranny so i for sure don't want to have to repull the engine. More less looking to take the upper/lower controls arms including spindles, rotors etc and move them over to the 66. Also put the brake booster including master cylinder also. I heard it will pretty much bolt up as it was made for it, but by looking at the arms on the suburban they look more massive i haven't had a chance to measure yet. The guy wants me to buy the whole truck but when you live in a subdivision i am sure the home owners association would love that one. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 2,384 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 2,384 | You can support the engine from the top & won't have to pull it out, or you should be able to swap just the arms also. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,896 Socket Breaker | | Socket Breaker Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,896 | this guy used the stuff from a '83 suburban in his 1966 c20: http://www.persh.org/pickup/pickup-beginning.htm He has several articles on how he did some of it.
