Is there a trailer hitch available for a 52 Chevy 1/2 ton? If so where?

I have one with the square receiver that you could have but it's kinda heavy to ship to Tx.
I could take measurements for you and U could make your own I guess. My truck has a rear roll pan and the hitch was hidden behind the lic.plate. I never haul anything with that truck and it weighed a ton so I scraped it.

I doubt you'll find one off the shelf, but you could call Hitch-web at 800-300-4067 and asked them if have one or make one for you, but then any good trailer supply shop that sells & installs hitches should be able to do the same.

I found an almost bolt on one for my 52 1 ton.
I know your frame is different, but the point is if you go to a good trailer hitch place, one that stocks hundreds of them you will find one.

Mine only needed the 6 holes drilled under the frame to bolt it on, it was clearenced perfectly for the spring hangers, and was the proper width. I went expecting to buy something to start with and cut and weld from there, I was pleasantly surprised.

I called many of the hitch manufacturers asking if they had one to fit my truck, none of them did, or at least they don't know it.

My question is are you looking for a "working" hitch or a period one? If you are looking for a working hitch most towns have a couple of places that will install reciever hitches, or whar ever you want. I happened across an unsual bumber hitch locally. It has jaws that fit over the bumber. (front or back.) It has a single bolt that clamps the jaws together. From what I understand the more common hitchs used U bolts.

I'm sure you are aware of the 'go' and 'whoa' limitations of these old trucks. A big receiver hitch hooked to a big trailer might end in catastrophe for all involved.

I agree with Stuart,
I hooked our 18' dual axle flat trailer, about 3,000 lb to my 52 1 ton. I had my disk brakes then, so no problem there, but the go part was a problem. The trailer was empty and I could hardly get to 4th gear on level ground with my 235 and 4.56 gears. Your 1/2 ton will wimp out even sooner with it's faster gears, and if you have an originalish engine and a 3 speed I wish you luck with anything over about 1500 lb for any distance.

I recently removed the receiver hitch from my 1/2-ton Suburban. It was an ugly homemade thing and I cut it apart to get it off.

I pulled a friends 16 foot car trailer with it a couple of times. Empty it wasn't bad, but with a load on it, even with a GMC 270, it was really more than the truck wanted to pull. Of course I have 3.08 gears, but even in the lower gears it was work for the truck. My own trailer is bigger and I never tried it behind that truck.

And even with disk brakes, it wasn't really up to stopping a loaded trailer.

A friend told me a frightening story just last night of not being able to stop a loaded truck and trailer, and knowing God was watching out for him as he sailed through a stop sign watching cars that stopped and waited while he flew through...

So I agree with Grigg and Stuart. Be aware of your (trucks) limitations!

that happened to me once i was driving a friends truck and only the front brakes worked, i didn't know this. i came up on a stop light and stepped on the brakes and with all the weight on the rear the front brakes wouldn't stop it. i was going slow but still couldn't stop, thank goodness the other cars did and just watched me slide on thru. i geared it down for the next one. was a unpleasent rest of the drive. you might make your own. i made one that doubles as the sling on my 64 c20 wrecker. i got the biggest channel iron i could find that fit over the frame and made a custom bumper sling that removes and boom. it is very strong has pulled several trailers and towed and lifted several trucks. i didn't even have to drill new holes in the frame i used the old ones.

the hitch i put on my 63 gmc k10 was almost new it was off my cousin's 72 ford f-150, he took it off and tried to bolt it on his 2000 f250, but the frame was way wide so he said i could have the hitch
