I just got my truck back on the road after several years of refurbishing. Today I took my Dad for a ride and he asked me what side mirrors I was going to put on. I told him that I wasn't planning on putting any side mirrors on. He tells me that he thinks it is a law that you have to have mirrors if the vehicle was originally equipped with them.

Did my '70 C10 have side mirrors as standard equipment? Is it true that I will have to install mirrors in order for the truck to be road legal?

I'm pretty sure that it did. It seems like my Dad's old '70 GMC had stock mirrors.

In Michigan, I'm pretty sure the law states you must have side mirrors but not necessarily a rearview mirror. Not sure about Mississippi. Check with your local constabulary. They will tell you for sure.

ETA: Some states have an exemption for classic/antique/historical vehicles that reads something along the lines of "if it didn't have it when it was new, you don't have to have it now".

I would still check with the Police, though, to make sure that there isn't some local ordinance that has different requirements.

You can garantee it came with mirrors, was required on most everything I can think of by '70.
The difference of location varies by state. Typicaly the drivers side is always required and the passenger mirror is only required if you dont have a clear view out of the rear window for the center mirror.
