on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 428 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 428 | I just got my truck back on the road after several years of refurbishing. Today I took my Dad for a ride and he asked me what side mirrors I was going to put on. I told him that I wasn't planning on putting any side mirrors on. He tells me that he thinks it is a law that you have to have mirrors if the vehicle was originally equipped with them.
Did my '70 C10 have side mirrors as standard equipment? Is it true that I will have to install mirrors in order for the truck to be road legal? | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 1,158 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 1,158 | I'm pretty sure that it did. It seems like my Dad's old '70 GMC had stock mirrors.
In Michigan, I'm pretty sure the law states you must have side mirrors but not necessarily a rearview mirror. Not sure about Mississippi. Check with your local constabulary. They will tell you for sure.
ETA: Some states have an exemption for classic/antique/historical vehicles that reads something along the lines of "if it didn't have it when it was new, you don't have to have it now". | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 1,158 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 1,158 | Here is a link to Mississippi\'s Motor Vehicle Code\'s section on Required Equipment . The section on Mirrors is at 63-7-57. I would still check with the Police, though, to make sure that there isn't some local ordinance that has different requirements. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 720 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 720 | You can garantee it came with mirrors, was required on most everything I can think of by '70. The difference of location varies by state. Typicaly the drivers side is always required and the passenger mirror is only required if you dont have a clear view out of the rear window for the center mirror. 1956 GMC 370 dump " 'Tater "1970 VW Volksrod "the Black Bomber" 2007 Chevy Avalanche 2020 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, 2005 Harley Davidson FLHTCUI I dig all cars, old and new, whether they were hammered out of American iron, German steel, or Japanese tin cans. Being unable to appreciate them all is missing out on a world of great things. But thats just MY opinion! :P
