On the earlier trucks the mount pad is horizontal and on the later trucks it is angled. You need to correct bellhousing to match your crossmember.

There are guys on the forum that can tell you what year they went from a verticle bolt through the rear mount to the the slanting crossmember and mount. Do you have tube or lever type shocks and does the frame have a distinct kickup over the rear axle (47-53) or is it nearly straight (54-55 1st). All this will help them narrow it down to the near exact year.

Once you've seen both they are easy to identify. Do you know this frame is a Chevy or could it be a GMC? This page has some pictures that will help sort it out.
