on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! It doesn't seem to want to come out, and the hex part on the top of the fitting doesn't seem to be a normal sized wrench size.
I recently switched to electric wipers, and the vacuum leak doesn't make things work very well (or at all).
Thanks in advance. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 | Brendan, Isn't this just a common brass pipe 90° with a push on barb for a hose...doesn't it just unscrew from the manifold? All these question and no answers, what gives anyhow! Stuart | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 1,158 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 1,158 | It's just screwed into the manifold.
I would think that it would unscrew, but 60 years of heat fluctuations have bonded it to the manifold.
Also, none of my wrenches fit it. (go figure) It seems to be rather brittle, too, because my Vice-Grips remove material from the fitting.
I'm sort of thinking that I need to go and get a new piece of hose and find something to block up the end. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | Brendan, my '50, 216 fitting is the original one and is simply a cast brass 90° 1/8npt to 1/4tube, smooth hose barb fitting. A 7/16 wrench fits it just perfect. All I can think of is the restorers friend, "Kroil it", when its warm and if it snaps of just drill it out with an 'R' tap drill and clean out the threads with a 1/8-27 pipe tap. Coat the drill and tap with grease to hold the chips so they don't fall into the manifold. Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

Rubber caps are plentiful and an easy fix. The only 'caveat' would be if #7 has a habit of backfiring...this can launch a plug into the stratosphere.

The give away is that the front of the flatbed has nice rounded corners, will be a rare truck and an attention getter will the stakesides. Also interesting treatment with the two front bumbers, the brand of a real work truck.
Oh, on that fitting, you really need to remove the whole thing whatever it takes and plug the hole with the proper plug. Sounds like you need the GIANT sized vice grips and a johnson bar. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 Ex Hall Monitor | | Ex Hall Monitor Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 |

I do have deep metric sockets, and a 12mm was a bit on the large side, but it worked great with my 3/8 drive ratchett. It didn't want to come out, but it did eventually. I went into the FLAPS and got a plug, and she started right up after I installed it. Apparently, there was always a bit of a vacuum leak on that hose because the carb needs some ajusting now. JiMerit: Actually, that bed is not original to the truck. She originally came with a standard box, but the railroad pulled it and put on a utility box. Then when it was sold to the orchard that had it next, the railroad threw a box off of an AD onto it, and when Grandpa got it, he pulled this one off of the 1940 Chevy that he had it on (wish he still had that truck) and put it on this one. He says it was an aftermarket flatbed that he traded somebody for, but it's possible (probable even) that it was original equipment off of an older Chevy. I'll ask for some more details when I see him today. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,048 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,048 | Hay Brendan, Have you had it out for a drive yet?? Were coming up this next weekend, hows the weather?? | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 1,158 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 1,158 | I've had it out twice, but I've not gone too far with it. The weather is pretty good. There's a little snow left in places, but it's been pretty warm (50's) and it's rained on and off. It's supposed to be nice -- if a bit cooler -- this weekend, but that could change at any time... | | |
