on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 176 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 176 | My 1970 292/6 has a monojet carb. Every time I start it, if it sits more than a few hours.I have to prime it with gas to get it to start. It seems like the carb is leaking down and emptying the bowl out into the manifold. I know the old 4bbls use to leak from the bowl and we use to epoxy them. Is it the same problem with the monojets? The carb is still on the truck so I can move it around. I am going to get a kit and go through it, Just wanted to know if there was anything to look out for?

I have had my Mono-jet apart a lot of times tuning it, just can't remember if there is a way for the fuel to leak out the bottom. There must be or else yours wouldn't be doing it! You sure the accelerator pump is working? Do you see fuel spray when you move the lever? that is if it has fuel in it! I have rebuilt many Monojets & have neverhad that problem. I believe when you get through it will be fine. There are 2 different gaskets between the throttle body & fuel bowl. Make shure you select the right one & get it on the right way. The link from the throttle to the metering rod has a tendency to fall out. You can bend it in a little if it tries to work out. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. The metering rod plunger has a rod next to it in the bore that fits into a slot in the plunger there is a small hole in one end of the rod It was not connected to anything? is it suppose to be or does it just ride up and down the bore, pushed up from the underside?? hope you can make sense of the discription. The accelerator pump is ok, and the carb looks pretty clean. I think the problem was induced by the last person here. I wish I had a diagram/exploded view of one of these carbs.

It was in a pile of stuff under the seat. (small hook shaped rod) can't believe I found it! I got a kit today, so I will rebuild it over the weekend an see how it goes. I can't see any reason to have the problem I am having?? dosen't seem like it can happen the way the monojets are set up. prety simple carb.
