| | | | Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 513 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 513 | i was finishing rebuilding the front axle on ny 1963 gmc k10, i put 1964 chevy axles under instead of 63- i wanted self adjusting brakes, i was alomst done with job and found one of the front hubs were the race sets it chewed up, i am in desprite need of a 64-66 k-10 front hub, does anyone make these or does someone have them for sale all info would be very helpfull thanks mike

I thought the spindles were interchangeable from the later 73-87 trucks, giving you the disc brake upgrade.
What part of the hub is chewed up? The bearing race, or the seat for the bearing race? If the race sits tight in the seat, it should be fine. I "peened" the race seat with a punch and a 2 lb hammer. You may be able to snug that race by putting several peens in the seat. When you indent the metal, it pushes some of the metal out to the side, efectively taking up some of the clearence. THIS MAY ONLY BE A TEMPORARY FIX! I never had a problem with my race after doing just this.
I am sure somebody will jump in and correct me if I am telling you to do something dangerous. Hub failures could have serious consequences. This procedure may keep you on the road long enough to find a good hub. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,801 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,801 | Peen the race bore to snug the bearing if possible, and install it with some green LocTite. The green stuff is called "Sleeve & Bearing Mount, and it's somewhat thicker than regular LocTite. Be sure the hub and the race are thoroughly degreased with brake cleaner or lacquer thinner, etc. before assembling the hub. Assemble the hub before things cure, and the LocTite will find its way into the loose spots. If you need to disassemble it later, warm it up with a Propane torch and the bond will release.
