For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 108 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 108 | Today I inspected the inside of my 1951 fuel tank. I can see a heavy layer of varnish everywhere. I am sure that this crud will cause problems with fuel flow and contamination. Anyone have recommendations on products and or procedures as to flushing/cleaning/sealing my old "in the cab" tank would be appreciated.
Best Regards Will

I sent one out & had it cleaned & coated because it was in a panel & new was not available & now the coating is comeing off in the gas & gumming up the carb. I,m putting a new universal one in it now. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. They can put just about any size tank in their vat and it comes out looking almost new. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,378 Ex Hall Monitor | | Ex Hall Monitor Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,378 | Use the search function and you'll find a ton of info on this. Buying a new tank is the easyest and most expensive solution. Cleaning and coating your current tank is not difficult and if you follow the manufacturer's directions you will get a quality result. I've done several & never had a failure. Radiator shops around here won't touch gas tanks. Someone recently posted that they used steam cleaning successfully and didn't require coating.

Let it sit for at least a couple hours and it'll strip everything including neutralizing rust. I've let total rusty pieces sit for a couple days and they wash off without a speck of rust on them. I've even seen sendng units cleaned this way and work perfectly afterwards.
