Been trying to figure out if I want to spend the bucks for a set of Wayne covers (valve and side) for my 235. Have heard some comments that the modern castings are not necessarily up to snuff, and require some butchering to get to fit.

Also heard that there is a spacer that can be purchased that helps the fit. Comments?

If you've had any experience, good or bad I'd sure like to hear about it BEFORE I place an order. Thanks in advance,

A Wayne set fit fine on my 261, with no modifications or adjustments. However, the one problem that will always occur on certain engines (high pressure 235s and 261s, maybe) is that there is a conflict with the thermostat housing. I think that is what the spacer is for. I do not think that this problem is due to a poor casting.

My Wayne set was very poorly buffed.

I have 2 offenhauser valve covers that ill darn near give away!!!!(and one fenton)
All they do is leak,,leak,,leak!!
New gaskets,all diff. types of sealant,etc....from now on its sheet metal for me.

I'm runnin Patrick's "economy dress-up" kit on my 235. No problems. The Wayne looks good but I'm happy with what I've got.

I've thought about the Wayne option along with the nice valve cover from Clifford. I can't help you with actual fit, but my conclusion was I can't afford those right now. I've spent too much money on everything else. So, I went with the cheapo-chrome from one of the usual vendors. They showed up and I'm quite happy with look and fit. I'll have to get back to you on leakage rates in about a year.

If you'd like, I can send a picture. With all the lines and hoses that are going to have to run between the valve cover and the t-stat housing, I'm thinking of going with one of those spacers also.

Another option maybe not as expensive is to have the original valve and side covers powder coated. This is what I have done and it won't look like everyone elses offy or fenton aluminun covers.

bigmacdaddy ... that looks great. Personally I think the original stuff looks a lot better that the aluminum ones that everyone has and you save a lot of $$.

Thanks for the responses. I liked the look of MacDaddy's cover and I took time to talk with a powder coat source. Both my covers had dings that would have been visible even under the powder, whether it be colored or clear.

In actuality, the big problem was that I checked out "SixCylindersOverTexas's" pictures and I was hooked. If you haven't checked out his site you really should. His attention to detail is impressive. I've been assured by the vendor that the repo covers seal up okay, but was advised that you have to add a spacer between the thermostat housing and the block. This gives you the added clearance in the front that it takes to properly seat the cover.

Joe's (Bolter #3785) got an absolutely awesome truck but his engine/engine compartment setup is especially outstanding. If you "click to enlarge" his pics you'll be amazed at the amount of detail that he has created.

Any idea what he used for the spark plug wires ... I want to do the same ... cause it looks really clean!

Looks like he got his wire length established, fed it through 5/16" tubing, established one profile and then duplicated the bends with the other 5 wires so they maintained the same spacing at the center.

The neat thing I discovered with the enlarged picture, is that he has taken a 261 (check the block numbers) and made it look like a 216. Now that's going to some length to remain period correct.

I've never seen a coil cover, upper plug side cover, regulator cover or breather cap in those configurations. Not familiar with the "Sharp" brand but bet he did some digging to locate those pieces. However, I wonder about the beehive cannister....engine numbers correspond with a 55-57 261 and I thought they used the full flow can with 1/2" lines. Maybe they are 1/2"...a little hard to tell.

Just goes to show you, that the sky is the limit if you're willing to put in the time and effort.

just curious,where have you seen alot of people with Fenton Valve covers?

not as many Fenton .. more of Offenhuaser. But I think they both looks the same. I am not saying that they look bad you just see a lot of them. I want mine to be a little different.

wow... 6Cyl's truck is almost enough to make me want to dump my V-8 and go with an I6... NOT.. but it sure is perty.

58-62 USA truck 261s have the full-flow oil system (with 1/2" NPT hose ends).

Roger on the 1/2" NPT's on the 261....Joe sent me some additional pictures....it sure looks like 3/8" lines to the beehive. Also, thanks for the heads-up on the coils. Didn't know they even existed in that form....kinda pricey for sure. The key is to have a picture so I can do some backyard engineering!!!!

I am working on a third acc. position on the pass. side with a 2 groove balancer. Understand Buffalo has a modified 250 and Patrick has one in the works. The problem, unless you mount the accessory extremely low, is getting a 2 groove waterpump pulley to adapt to the early waterpump/adaptor plate combo. I guess you could machine one out of a billet, but I was looking for something that might be a little more cost effective, and could benefit more folks with the same need for 3 accessories. If anyone has an idea about this I sure would like to hear it.

Im just saying because I have seen only about 5 installed in cars/trucks over the years and I collect this stuff UNLESS Patrick started making them already.Fenton valve covers are obsolete.

Aw heck guys....I went wild and ordered a set of the Wayne covers...was having so much fun I got a pair of Carter/Webers from Tom and a 2 groove balancer from Buffalo.

Not too worry....I'm sure I'm going to win the Florida lottery this week!!!!!! Yeah right!!!!

Chatted with Steve of Buffalo.....no computer, no cell phone....just a lathe and a milling machine! Living the simple life.

I'll post a couple pictures of the 2 groove when it comes in next week. It's basically a new 250 balancer with 2-grooves. About 6" diameter.
