Hi there

I'm looking for infos about engines you could get in your 1961 Apaches (L6 and V8's). What kind of trannys? What kind of Special equipments could be ordered?
Is there a webpage dedicated to 61's? I couldn't find one yet.

Thanks for any link and Information!

Thomas

Hi General Lee,

we here at the Stovebolt are forunate enough to have lots and lots of 61 apache owners that are very knowlegable about their trucks and I think you will find about anything you need right here.

Click on the gallery page and look at the group in the 60-66 truck group.

Also you should request a Restoration Packet from GM.They offer this as a free service. All you need is your VIN number and you can call them or request the packet online. You will find a link to this service on the Stovebolt forum, just do a search using the keywords restoration GM and follow the links.

Best of luck and if we can help just let us know and we will give it our best shot.

I'm a little confused. Was the "Apache" name also assigned to GMCs? I thought that was a Chevy thing. If it is a Chevy, here is some of what I know. Available motors were the 235 inline 6 and the 283 V-8. Trannies are 3onthetree, 4onthefloor, or automatic. Mine came with a posi-rear and a heavy-duty clutch that was optional with the 4spd.
There are a bunch of vendors(American Classics, Jim Carter, LMC, etc...) that sell the literature you want. A shop manual is a must have. The owners manuals are good to have and available as well. I even have an accessories manual. http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2073377370071636143DJNLon They also have a factory assembly manual, but you just about have to be an engineer to understand it.

Hi all

Thanks for all the responses!!

Actually, I don't have yet any VIN, 'cause I don't own a Truck. I'm searching for a 61 Apache Step Side, that's the Reason why I'm asking you guys what kind of optional material could be ordered. Anyway, I just recieved a few offers about shipping costs and so on to Switzerland. It's getting all day more interesting!! ;-))

See you and a good Weekend!

Thomas
