Well,folks-- I won't be getting the Mack EH after all. The owner suddenly decided the amount we had agreed upon isn't enough,so he's sending back my deposit on it. :mad:
He told me the price was $1,000.00 earlier,so if any of you are interested you might still be able to get it for relatively cheap. I think this truck is way too for a guy like its current owner. So if you're interested,just ask and I'll get you in touch with him. I even heard he's considered making a "rat-rod" out of it! I hope somebody out there can save this Mack!!
I'd still be interested except for 2 factors:1-Where I come from,when you make an agreement with someone,you stick to it,regardless of the outcome. and 2-The thousand is about all I can afford to pay,without dipping into money I have earmarked for repairs,service,and fuel for the retrieval of the truck.
It saddens me to be treated this way by someone I considered as family,but I guess it just proves that you can't trust relatives in matters like this. I'm looking into different makes,as well as Macks,as I'll be needing a truck this summer.
Maybe I'll be able to find another Mack in the same price range,but I doubt it.
Right now I'm looking at a '47 International ton-and-a-half Cab-n-chassis driver for 500.00,a '49 GMC ton and a half flatbed for about 2K,runs great ,and a '47 Diamond T for 2,500.00,ran fine 5 years ago when it was parked. I think I can work the prices of the 2 more expensive ones down to an affordable amount. ;)I'll keep you guys informed.

Hey Speed, that's messed up man, sorry to hear it. I agree, when you settle on a price, that is the price, even if you have regrets...it's a matter of honor, which evidently a relative of yours doesn't have....sorry.

The sad thing is that we can choose our friends, but we can't choose our relatives. I believe that what comes around goes around and I hope he gets his soon.

Not sure what model the 'Binder is. All it said in the ad was the year,(actually listed as a '37-'47,looks more like a '47),and that it runs,and the pic shows it to be a conventional cab and chassis about a ton and a half. didn't look too bad,but it's a long way to go (middle Oregon,as near as I can tell) for a truck that only goes 45 mph empty.Coming home it'd be flat towing my Chevy one ton. I'm still awaiting a callback on the GMC,which is a '48'not a '49. I really hope I can work something out for this one,I love old GMCs!!
Talked to the owner of the Diamond T,he might be willing to work something out on it,labor and cash or something. Haven't had time to go check it out yet.
A friend just emailed and reminded me of another International flatbed I'd forgotten about,and it's only about 10 miles from here. don't know if it's available,but it was freshly painted,well on the way to restored,last time I looked it over closely. Last time I drove past it,it had a lot of junk piled on the bed and the paint looked pretty rough. Didn't look like it had moved for a couple of years,either. HMMmmm...
I'm willing to help if any of you are interested in the Mack. I'm still on speaking terms with the owner. (He really doesn't remember telling me he'd sell it for $1,000.00!!)I really want to see it in better hands,but the deal's off the table for me personally. The owner's trying to finish a '55 Chevy stepside and needs the money. I got an email from him and he said he needs to get $1500.00 to recoup his purchase price-still a very good deal. C'mon,guys-rescue this cool classy old truck! (I'm not making a cent from getting this truck sold-just doing a good deed for a piece of history.) I have the build sheet and a bunch of info on this particular truck from the Mack Truck Museum,as well as a pictorial book on the EH models,and I've found some good sources of parts and info.
Thanks to all of you for your concern. I've found so many other possibilities I can't even follow up on all of 'em. Life is GOOD!!
