I have some noise comming from this (I think) I am tempted to replace this assembly with a bolt and some rubber and a spacer if needed.

Why the spring?

Thanks stovebolters.

Another case of "my truck is broke, can you fix it without knowing what year, make and model it is?"

My '54 doesn't have springs in the cab mount.

Springs a let the cab flex on the frame, there should also be wood blocks where the back half of the cab meats the front half right at the lower door jam. All this is to let everything bend and move so it doesn't break.

My 46 from years of the cab being bounced around developed cracks around where the rear spring bolts let the cab flex, if the springs weren't there than the shock to the cab would break the plates where the spring bolts are mounted. I welded the cracks up and reinforced it with 1/8 steel around where the cracks were. I would get under with a good light and just take a look to make sure theres no wear through where the bolts mount. I still have my cab on a dolly on its back and can send you a picture to show what I mean if you wish.

Thanks everyone. No need for a pic Bobt, I did the inspection today, no cracks, but thanks.I saw the techtips on brads page. Today I replaced all the bolts, made rubber pads for the front 2 and used some rubber bushings about the same size that came out for the rear. No metal cup. I also put rubber under the spring, and under the frame and shoved a rugger hose on the bolt inside the spring. Things will move, but I would find it hard to believe it will squeek or rattle. Drove it home from the shop today, wow, what a difference.

The stuff I took out today looked original. Smashed, bent, wore out, completely failed. This new stuff has some life it it.

Sure is fun making this truck better and better step by step. I drive it daily.
